Last time we chatted about Visto and the mobile-email space, it was in reaction to the staggering round of financing Brian Bogosian and his team landed. At the time, I and many others questioned how venture investors were going to recoup their aggregate investment in the space.
Since then, we've had the much publicized RIMM-NTP legal developments, which has led to Gartner recommending against using Blackberry any longer [that's the techhead equivalent of telling a heroin addict to stay clean after being airdropped into a poppy field].
Today on tech.meme I noticed that Visto signed a licensing agreement with NTP [as did Good Technology at an earlier point]. I'm still not sure how the mobile email space plays itself out, but I continue to wish Brian and his Visto team well and look forward to seeing how they plan to aggressively push ahead at a very vulnerable point in RIM's history. Either way, I would bet dollars to donuts that RIM is closer to coming to an agreement with NTP today than they were yesterday.
UPDATE [12/15 11 PM EST] -- Made tech.memeorandum's front page for the first time...I'd be lying if I said that didn't put a smile on my face.
Note: I and/or funds I maintain discretionary control over do not hold a position [long or short] in RIMM.
