Deja Vu all over again.
Honestly, didn't we just have a "Microsoft Word is Doomed" hype cycle two weeks ago when Google bought Writely?
Now we're all up in arms because an AJAX startup called ajaxWrite launched? Click on over to tech.meme right now and you'll see the top headline reads:
Bye Bye Microsoft Word, Hello ajaxWrite by Michael Robertson
The blarticle's author, Michael Robertson, is the founder of several notable ventures including mp3.com and SIPhone. He also happens to be the CEO and founder of the company launching ajaxWrite. Now, to be clear, Michael wasn't trying to hide that fact for one second, and contends that today's announcement is the first of many weekly AJAX applications his company will unveil.
While that's all well and good, could some of the bloggers touting this thing have at least spent five minutes fooling around with ajaxWrite today before anointing it the Redmond Killer!?!? Rather than spew out the same "constructive criticisms" others have done today, I'll simply invite you to read what TDavid, Jeff and Paul had to say.
Note: At the time of this writing I, and/or funds I maintain discretionary control over, maintained a long equity position in MSFT.
I cant take a startup seriously when it has the word "ajax" in its name... typical Robertson move to take advantage of mass media naivete for buzz words and associate his company with a train that has long left the building (mp3.com, lindows, siphone) . . .find a buzz word, put it in the company, hope someone at newsweek will thing YOU invented the technology and your company is the leader . . .
or maybe he's the genius and I'm just a linear thinker. . .:)
