NetSuite announced NetSuite 11.0 this week, and from the look of things, it's a substantive leap forward in several key areas.
- New UI -- NetSuite is using AJAX to enhance the interface; including customizable, role-based views of the underlying apps
- New Vertical Solutions -- NetSuite, has launched industry versions of its ERP/CRM apps for Wholesale/Distribution and Services (They launched a Software industry solution last month)
- SuiteScript -- A new custom scripting engine (JavaScript) that should allow more extensible use of the NetSuite apps
SuiteScript is the boldest and most important enhancement in NetSuite 11.0 for several reasons.
1) It's a shot across the bow at other SaaS vendors, including RightNow and salesforce.com.
2) This MAY open NetSuite's market beyond the small business, departmental accounts [something it likely needs to do in order to fully monetize its IPO value].
It's way too early to determine whether this is a game-changer (although Niel thinks it might be). This move could backfire in a big way [with more complexity comes a greater chance of failure], but it's the kind of bold move a company like NetSuite should be making as it attempts to build a comprehensive, multi-tier customer base.
