Enterprise 2006 was a worthwhile event for many reasons, but perhaps no more rewarding part of the event was the ability to help out this year's sponsored charity. For those who don't realize, MR Rangaswami donates the conference fees net of expenses to various charities. This year, staying true to his form as an angel investor, MR announced that Sandhill Group would provide seed financing to a venture-backed charitable organization, the Sprinkles Health Initiative, dedicated to the eradication of vitamin and nutrient deficiency among the world's youth.
What's most compelling about the charitable endeavor is that it's feasible. It costs $2 per child to stave the onset of micronutrient deficiency via the use of Sprinkles supplemental powders. That's right, $2. At the risk of sounding like one of those "for the price of a cup of coffee" infomercials, I'll simply leave you with two thoughts:
1) Having spent some time with Dr. Stanley Zlotkin, Sprinkles founder and chairman, I would recommend you get in contact with him directly if you would like to help the cause. He's far better equipped than I am to articulate the opportunities and challenges Sprinkles is addressing
2) Sprinkles has set out a goal of treating 50 million children in the next five years (2011), which equates to $100 million in funding
